Purpose of the job:
•To take overall responsibility for the business development and profitability of the factory •To manage all aspects of the operations facility to achieve the required company standards of operation efficiency, cost control, product quality & yield and customer service. •To provide leadership for the Management team and create an environment where all employees are motivated to deliver outstanding performance. •To be the key contact with customers and 3rd parties.

Responsibilities: •Effectiveness of operations: ensure efficient operation at highest quality & lowest cost, logistics, quality control and maintenance through respective department heads. Ensure optimal communication and co-operation between departments. •Customer service and liaison: ensure through the Management Team and in line with company standards the highest service level to the customers. Interface with the customer to create the required two-way communication ensuring the positive development of the business, volume and profit and overall quality of the partnership with customers. •Cost control & Controlling: minimize overall costs of the company. Optimize overall operations and through this balance the cost of processing and packing from labour to product yield. Play a key role in establishing appropriate controls and the measurement of main KPI’s (such as product yields, labour utilization and productivity, line efficiencies etc) and product flows throughout the business. •Staffing: ensure proper availability of employees and environment of work in close cooperation with HR function. •KPI’s Targeting: appraise / review performance of subordinate managers. Agree objectives and review results using established procedures. Provide reports and statistics to ensure the efficient running of the Plant. Gather sufficient information to enable proper decisions to be made regarding KPI’s. •Quality: ensure that all operational quality systems are maintained, updated and implemented throughout the Plant and that all personnel are aware of their obligations. •Yields: measure and control the yields & waste operationally in line with company standards. •Best practices: enable best practices to be extended across the business. •Management support: advise, support and guide management and staff on all levels. As the Leader of Senior Management Team ensure successful and consistent profitable growth and development of the business with customers.

Reporting to the Head of Product Development, the role will be working in conjunction with the New Product Development team to ensure effective transition of current products from initial concept to successful launch. The role also requires on-going development and improvement of existing products and processes to improve product quality and production efficiency.

Key duties of the role will include:

• Accountability for the transition of product concepts into the factory process during the development process.
• Responsibility for the organization and implementation of factory scale ups, pre-production trials in conjunction with Senior Production Management and oversee first production trials to ensure they are in line with intended outcomes.
• Working with the Account Manager and Technical Manager on new line launches and feeding back information accordingly whilst representing the Product Development function at a site level.
• Carrying out routine checks and audit on production processes and procedures and reporting on any non-conformances.
• Visiting customer store visits to inspect the quality of product lines on sale and reporting back on any activity carried out by company competitors.
• Coordinating and implementing taste panels, logging findings and providing feedback where required.
• Participate in related meetings and reviews where necessary (i.e. range reviews, team briefings)
• Maintaining Health, Safety and Hygiene in accordance with Company and legal legislation within production areas.

The successful candidate will require:

• Due to the nature of the role, it is essential to have 1-2 years working knowledge / practical experience in a meat manufacturing environment with a higher level qualification in a food related discipline being an advantage.
• Ability to be self-motivated and to prioritise and manage own workload.
• The ability to be able to analyse and report on data that is appropriate to the audience.
• Proficient IT skills in particular Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
• Excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate and influence all levels of personnel within and outside of the business.
• Flexibility towards working hours including occasional weekend work (i.e. for NPD launches)

The Planning Manager role:

Work as part of Factory Operations team to deliver efficient, safe products at established customer service and conversion costs targets.
Manage the planning and scheduling of factory production to meet customer and inventory requirements at optimum cost and all current and relevant business criteria and controls. You will be responsible for motivating and managing a team off planners, dispatch leaders and buyers.

The candidate

An experienced professional with a manufacturing background with experience working with MRP systems and with an impressive track record in running teams for business outcomes. You will have a minimum of 5 years experience at management level, a relevant qualification in a numerical discipline at degree level and a career stable track record. Ideally your planning experience will have been developed in a high volume, multi SKU environment with a business in food or FMCG.
